More Ombre!

Can't get enough of these Ombres by V&Co.  After the Rebel Quilt I needed an easy project, this was perfect.  The pattern is from The Pine Needle Quilt Shop, it's so easy and I got to use my favorite fabric again!

Rebel Quilt - Ombre Solids

My latest favorite fabric line is from V&Co called Ombre Solids, I love it so much!  One of my favorite quilters is #libselliott, she is coming to town soon and will possibly have me quilt for her!!!  I decided to make her quilt called the Rebel Quilt.  It was a lot more of a challenge than I really was looking for but I am so glad I did it!  I used Ombre's and I love how it came out.

Carole Lylse-Shaw asked me to quilt for her!!

I was contacted a while back by Carole Lylse-Shaw who is a very prominent modern quilter.  She is very accomplished, she teaches modern improv classes and is currently writing a book and was selected as one of the 52 Quilters.  I was very thrilled to quilt these straight line quilts for her.  Hopefully I will get the opportunity to quilt for her again!

Customer Quilt

This customer quilt was made by a really talented local quilter.  This is for her Grandson, we chose a perfect design called Restless, it really keeps the leafy theme but adds a modern twist and works for a boy!

T-shirt quilt

I can now add T-Shirt quilts to my list of quilting credentials!  This customer made the for her daughter who is graduating from High School this year.  If you know anything about T-Shirt quilting on a longarm then all I have to say about how challenging this was is that it was T-shirts on both sides, yeah, I know!

Customer quilts

Some recent customer quilts I am super proud of!  The stars quilt was a custom baby quilt I was hired to do.  I don't get a lot of custom work because most people just want and all over edge to edge design so this was a real treat!  The yellow and black quilt I did for my local quilt shop, it's an exclusive quilt.  That was a huge honor to be asked to quilt for the store.  I chose and Anita Shakelford design called Modern Curves, it's one of my favorite digital designs of all time!  I love how it adds movement yet it's so simple.

Gravity Quilt

I was so thrilled to be hired to quilt a Gravity quilt, it's a Jaybird Quilts pattern.  It was a block of the month at The Pine Needle Quilt Shop, taught by the infamous Pam Raby!  I didn't take the class but my mom did.  I did her quilt all custom!  I was one of my very first quilts with my longarm machine back in July.  This quilt is a beast but it's beautiful!  Heather hired me to do an allover design which was hard because the only quilting pictures I have seen of this quilt have been custom blocks.  My quilting friend and idol Christina Lane (@sometimescraftr) recommended a few ideas and the Easy Orange Peel was the one my customer chose.  I wasn't sure how it would look but as you can see, it's out of this world!!!!!  I hope others will hire me for their Gravity Quilts!

Stag Panel Whole Cloth Quilting

Yay!  What a great way to quilt without having to make the quilt!  The panel is from Hawthorne Threads "Stag" line of fabrics, I just free motioned the whole panel with my longarm.  Now I have a quilt!  Not sure what I will do with it, maybe something to sell at the upcoming craft fair?

Stag Whole Cloth Free Motion

I got this Stag panel fabric from Hawthorne Threads that I am using as a whole cloth quilt to practice free motion on. I love free motion feathers and swirls and curls so much.  Can't wait to advance to the picture of the Stag, it's such beautiful fabric!  On Saturday I took a Modern Feathers class by the famous Sometimescraftr at Modern Domestic.  I learned so much from Christina, now I can quilt down the feather stem which I could never do before!

Bringing Quilts to Life!

This is what quilting is all about!  Last week I got a call from MaryLu in response to my Craigslist add that I posted for my Longarm Quilting Services.  The next day she came to my home and she showed me this precious Beatrix Potter Quilt that her friend's mom had made more than 35 years ago, it was intended as a baby gift for MaryLu's daughter Julie who is now 39!  We chose a design together and decided it would be neat to make some pillows from the 3 extra blocks she had.  Excited by the project I got started right away, part of the project was resizing the pillows and adding fabric to the sides and making the backing.  I rushed to Fabric Depot, got the perfect Kona Solid called Seafoam and some amazing Wool Batting and some pillow forms.  Next was the quilting, we chose the design Echo of Light, it couldn't have been a more perfect design, it was loose and gave a woodsy feeling keeping with the theme of the Beatrix Potter blocks and it stitched out beautifully.  Then I quilted the pillows using a beautiful leaf design by Darlene Epp.  I found the perfect binding at Modern Domestic, from Art Gallery Fabric Bound Collection called Coming Home Spring.  This was full service quilting at its finest!  I made the binding, attached it and hand sewed it.  All done in less than a week! But this part is what is really special....

I had sent MaryLu some photos and was hoping she was as pleased with the work as I was.  When she came to pick up the quilt and pillows, and the handmade bowl I made for her out of some fabric scraps (something I do for my new customers!) The tears in her eyes said it all!!!!!!  She sat down and I got the story behind the quilt which really makes you realize just how meaningful a quilt can be.

MaryLu's best friend since college named Nancy lives in Williamsburg.  They have a very special friendship, Nancy and her husband Carl are also the Grandparents of MaryLu's daughter Julie.  Needless to say their families have remained very close for years!  Julie spent a lot of time with Nancy's family and the Beatrix Potter stories were a big part of their relationship, Julie still has the book series that Nancy gave her as a child.

Nancy's mom passed away at the age of 95 and this Beatrix Potter Quilt remained unfinished.  I feel so fortunate to have played a role in the completion of this quilt in honor of Nancy's mom.  MaryLu will be suprising her daughter with the quilt and pillows (and bowl) on her upcoming 40th birthday!

Changing lives one quilt at a time........

Compositional Quilting

Today I explored more Compositional Quilting on this Kona Kaufman practice fabric. I am so in love with this style, it's anything goes but in a planned sort of clean way.  I challenge myself to try designs that make me nervous and I love it when it's successful.  I hope that I can do this style of quilting on a customer quilt.

Composition quilting

Inspired by this style of quilting I am exploring the limitless possibilities! I love having a blank canvas of fabric and creating a piece of art.  Mostly because I don't really enjoy piecing I like to make a quilt with stitching.
